Online Consultation on Heatwave in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Officers, MahaPECOnet Grassroot NGO leaders, Experts and Sphere India

On 21.04.2023, MahaPECOnet secretariat collaborated with the Sphere India Academy to organize a virtual session on “Surviving the Heat: Basic Strategies and Best Practices” aimed at addressing heatwave preparedness and contributing to disaster management efforts. Eminent speakers such as Prof. Anil K Gupta, Dr. Prakerti, Mr. Prasad Sankpal DDMO Kolhapur, Ms. Ekta Bartarya- IGSSS, Ms. Sujata Kodag-Eco Logic Foundation and Ms. Jagruti Dharmadhikari shared their ground-level experiences and strategies for vulnerable populations. The session was moderated by Ms. Karon Shaiva, Governing Council – MahaPECOnet Secretariat, Trustee – RISE Infinity Foundation. The objectives were to increase awareness about heatwave risks, explore best practices, understand medical preparedness and foster dialogue between experts and local communities. More than 102 participants joined from the state along with the field coordinators, DDMO, MahaPECOnet members, MahaPECOnet secretariat team and team Sphere India.

Members Capacity Building on soft skills and team building

To engage and build rapport with the newly onboarded as well as existing members the secretariat team conducted in-person one day sessions in various places for the staff of NGOs to build their capacity and create the awareness and importance of preparedness and peacetime interventions. These sessions were conducted by the senior thematic associate Mansi Gamre during regional forums and observance days.

Webinar on Cross- sector Partnership with VisionSpring India

A webinar was convened by the MahaPECOnet Secretariat on 06.09.2023 to explore collaborative opportunities in cross-sector partnerships for the MahaPECOnet members and establish a clear vision objective. This report summarizes the key highlights and outcomes of the webinar held in partnership with VisionSpring India, a social enterprise dedicated to enhancing eyeglass accessibility in emerging and frontier countries.

MahaPECOnet Thematic Consultation Online Training Series

To enhance the knowledge and skills of MahaPECOnet members, a comprehensive capacity-building training program series was conducted, focusing on thematic consultations and cross-learning. This initiative aimed to orient members to new concepts and frameworks emerging in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). Conducted from January to February, the series included four online training sessions led by experts from Shrishti Consultants. These sessions introduced thematic external experts and provided opportunities for in-person DRR regional forums in Pune and North Maharashtra. The total participation for the series was 32 members.

Thematic Consultation Series Objectives:

  1. Deepening understanding of thematic areas.
  2. Tools, techniques and steps for developing localized programmes around MahaPECOnet thematic.
  3. Strengthening coordination and collaborative relations of partners around thematic areas for enhanced networking for mutual benefits.
