Nagpur Slum Flood Relief in collaboration with Donatekart, Amazon and Sahyadri Foundation
In December 2023 the Sahyadri Foundation in Nagpur collaborated with MahaPECOnet to distribute 440 dry ration kits to individuals in slum areas affected by floods. This relief effort, initiated in October and executed in November, involved multiple meetings, calls, documentation and ground reports submitted to DonateKart and Government administration by MahaPECOnet and Sahyadri Foundation. Coordinated efforts with Amazon and DonateKart resulted in the sponsorship of these kits, furthering the impact of the distribution. The dedicated volunteer team from the Sahyadri Foundation played a crucial role in ensuring the successful distribution of these essential kits, showcasing the positive outcomes achievable through collective efforts and partnerships.
Konkan and Vidarbha NGO Meetings for Flood response and needs assessment
On 20th July 2023, MahaPECOnet held a meeting to assess flood-affected areas, understand community needs, and gather suggestions for addressing ongoing challenges. Participants shared ground situations, such as landslide risks in Khalapur, significant agricultural damage in Chiplun, Khed, and Rajapur and severe water and food shortages in Irshalwadi. Requests for relief materials included family kits, blankets, and ration supplies. Suggestions for long-term solutions involved planting fruit trees, raising landslide awareness, and compiling shelter home lists. The meeting concluded with a request for detailed updates from participants to improve future planning and preparedness. The meeting attended by 23 NGO members.
DDMO-DDMC MahaPECOnet meetings for Konkan and Vidarbha Flood Response
The MahaPECOnet Secretariat held virtual meetings on 28th and 29th July 2023 to assess district-wise situations, NGO and volunteer responses, and government needs. Key discussions included reports from various District Disaster Management Officers (DDMOs): Yavatmal’s successful evacuation efforts, Nashik’s need for a GO-NGO coordination group, and Sindhudurg’s volunteer training and alert dissemination. Mumbai Suburban highlighted resource mapping needs, and Nashik stressed psychological support for DDMOs. UNICEF’s Nalini emphasized recent GO-NGO formation instructions. Action points included disaster management training, creating IEC materials, regular DDMO-NGO meetings, and psychological support sessions. The meeting concluded with remarks from Nalini and encouragement for initiating GO-NGO networks. Total 21 people including 13 District DDMOs, 3 DDMCs, PMU representative and State Consultant UNICEF Maharashtra attended this response meeting.
